Christian comedian John Crist recently announced that he proposed to his girlfriend, Lydia Fielder, a news anchor in the Nashville area. "The best thing that's ever happened to me in my entire life by far," Crist wrote on Sunday in an Instagram post regarding his engagement, "I love you so much [Lydia Fielder]."

Fielder, a co-anchor for Nashville TV station WSMV-TV, commented on his post on their engagement writing, "God's redemptive plan, JB. I LOVE YOU!"

She also shared the news on her own Instagram account, "God wrote it from the start—my first love is now my forever love. I do, John B. Crist."

According to The Christian Post, the couple were officially linked earlier this year and recently celebrated Crist's debut on the "Tonight Show" with Jimmy Fallon.

"The kind of night you dream about," Field wrote in a June Instagram post regarding the moment.

Proud, overwhelmed, & in total awe watching John take the stage on The Tonight Show—on the same network where I get to tell stories of my own," she added. "Surreal, and so deeply special. Congratulations, JB."

Crist's engagement comes several years after enduring a number of struggles in his life, including allegations of sexual assault back in 2019, which resulted in Netflix cancelling his special, I Ain't Prayin' for That, as well as Crist cancelling his remaining tour dates.

After spending four months in rehab, Crist, who previously dated country star Lauren Alaina, shared how his downfall was essential to his road to healing.

"The only thing worse is if that had never happened to me," he said, revealing he contemplated suicide in his darkest moments. "Every time I had like a sold-out show or anything I did on television, … I thought that if everybody knew the truth about me that all of these people would hate me."

"In that whole rehabilitation process, I found out there's a God that loves you, and He cares about you, and He's not mad at you," he added.

The comedian also recently celebrated five years of sobriety.
