The world is often a cold, cruel, and unkind place. People rarely give one another much respect, patience, and grace. But, around Christmas every year, more people will go out of their way to show someone an unexpected act of kindness. They might even reach down deeper into their pockets than usual to help an individual struggling financially.

It's almost as if the Christmas season is a tiny glimpse of what the world could be if people treated one another even a tiny bit better. Christmas, even with all the evil present in the world, is still the best time of the year, and there is reason to celebrate Christ’s entrance into the world.

Casting Crowns, in their track, sing about a sound commonly associated with the Christmas season: bells. The bells and the carols, as the song points out, are an “old familiar sound.” The bells continue ringing and sounding even though the world is often not a pleasant place at times.

In one of the tune’s early verses, the singer points out that evil and hatred are rampant in society. Peace is nonexistent on Earth, the lyrics add.

However, despite the sad state of society, Christ is still alive. He is still working and in control. He has not forsaken His followers. Instead, He remains through everything, as the song also reminds listeners.

“Then rang the bells more loud and deep
God is not dead, nor doth He sleep
The wrong shall fail, the right prevail
With peace of Earth, goodwill to men”

Christmas is the season to celebrate Christ’s birth in that lowly manger more than 2,000 years ago. But not only did he live on Earth then, but He is still alive today, changing hearts and lives!

Luke 2:14 “Glory to God in the highest, and on the earth peace among men with whom He is well pleased.”
