Missile from Yemen hits Israeli airport

A missile launched by Iranian-backed rebels in Yemen briefly halted flights and commuter traffic at Israel’s main international airport. It's the first time a missile has struck Ben-Gurion International Airport since the war in Gaza began. It struck Sunday near the airport's access road. Israel is vowing to respond. The attack came hours before Israeli Cabinet ministers were set to vote on whether to intensify military operations in Gaza. The cabinet ministers then voted to expand the operation in Gaza and focus on reclaiming more territory… according to reports. The army has begun to call up tens of thousands of reserves in preparation for an expanded assault. It felt much longer, but the U.S. stock market needed just a few weeks to roar all the way back to where it was on President Donald Trump’s “Liberation Day.” That’s when he shocked Wall Street by announcing much steeper tariffs than expected on nearly all U.S. trading partners. Within just four days, the S&P 500 fell about 12%, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost nearly 4,600 points, or about 11%. This past Friday, though, the S&P 500 rallied for a ninth straight gain and pulled back to where it was on April 2. Trump's 90-day pause on many tariffs and a resilient economy helped the market bounce back. Trump threatens 100% tariff on foreign-made films President Donald Trump is opening a new salvo in his tariff war, targeting films made outside the U.S. Trump said Sunday night that he has authorized the Department of Commerce and the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative to slap a 100% tariff “on any and all Movies coming into our Country that are produced in Foreign Lands.” Marvel Studios’ “Thunderbolts” opened with $76 million in domestic ticket sales. Studio estimates released Sunday showed the film kicking off the summer box office with a solid No. 1 debut, though it fell shy of Marvel’s more spectacular launches. All eyes had been on whether “Thunderbolts” could match the kind of performance Walt Disney Co.'s superhero factory once enjoyed so regularly. The results suggested Marvel’s malaise won’t be so easy to snap out of. But excellent reviews and good word-of-mouth should power “Thunderbolts” to strong business in the coming weeks. Other openings included the Alec Baldwin western “Rust,” which premiered in 115 theaters. It grossed about $25,000 in a debut more than three years after cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was killed on set.

Israel plans to intensify Gaza operations

An Israeli official says Cabinet ministers have approved plans to intensify military operations in the Gaza Strip. The official said the plan involves claiming more territory in the Palestinian enclave. The approval comes a day after Israel was hit with a missile from Yemen … just before it called up tens of thousands of reservist for the expanded operations in Gaza. Israel wants to increase pressure on the militant Hamas group to negotiate a ceasefire that better aligns with Israel’s terms. An eight-week ceasefire with the Hamas militant group collapsed in March. Iran's top diplomat to mediate between Pakistan and India Iran’s foreign minister is in Pakistan to try and mediate in the escalation between Islamabad and New Delhi after last month’s deadly attack on tourists in the Indian-controlled section of Kashmir. Abbas Araghchi's visit was the first to Pakistan by a foreign dignitary since tensions flared in the wake of a deadly attack on tourists in the disputed Kashmir region. It comes just days after Tehran offered to help ease tensions between the nuclear-armed neighbors. Araghchi was welcomed by senior Pakistani officials after landing at an airport near Islamabad early on Monday. He is to meet his Pakistani counterpart, Ishaq Dar, as well as President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Trump says he will reopen Alcatraz prison President Donald Trump says he is directing his government to reopen and expand Alcatraz, the notorious former prison on a California island that has been closed for more than 60 years. In a message on his Truth Social site Sunday evening, Trump wrote that, “For too long, America has been plagued by vicious, violent, and repeat Criminal Offenders, the dregs of society, who will never contribute anything other than Misery and Suffering." He went on tosay he wants the prison “substantially enlarged” to house America’s most ruthless and violent Offenders.” Trump threatens 100% tariff on foreign-made films President Donald Trump is opening a new salvo in his tariff war, targeting films made outside the U.S. Trump said Sunday night that he has authorized the Department of Commerce and the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative to slap a 100% tariff “on any and all Movies coming into our Country that are produced in Foreign Lands.” It wasn’t immediately clear how any such tariff on international productions could be implemented. It’s common for both large and smaller films to include production both in the U.S. and other countries. Big-budget movies like the upcoming “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning," for instance, are shot around the world.

Sean 'Diddy' Combs trial starts Monday The trial of Sean “Diddy” Combs is set to begin in a New York courtroom. The Monday trial comes eight months after his arrest on charges of sex trafficking and racketeering. Prosecutors say that once jury selection is complete, they'll deliver a mountain of evidence over several weeks. They say they'll show that the man who built a hip-hop empire was also a criminal. An indictment alleges that for two decades Combs used his employees and fame and fortune to abuse numerous women and others. His lawyers contend that no crimes occurred because any sexual activity occurred between consenting adults. Australia's Prime Minister reelected to second 3-year term Anthony Albanese has claimed victory as the first Australian prime minister to win a second consecutive term in 21 years. He credits the victory for *not modeling itself on U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration. Albanese told his supporters in a victory speech in Sydney: “Australians have chosen to face global challenges the Australian way, looking after each other while building for the future.” His center-left Labor Party had branded Albanese’s rival Peter Dutton, the opposition leader, “DOGE-y Dutton” and accused his party of mimicking Trump and his Department of Government Efficiency.

Pakistan test fires ballistic missile Pakistan has test fired a ballistic missile as tensions with India spike over last month's deadly attack on tourists in the disputed Kashmir region. The surface-to-surface missile has a range of about 280 miles. Saturday's launch was aimed at ensuring the “operational readiness of troops,” according to a statement from the military. There was no immediate comment about the launch from India, which blames Pakistan for the April 22 gun massacre that killed 26 people in the resort town of Pahalgam. Pakistan denies the charge.
