REVIEW: Sant Ambroeus

While in Palm beach this week, I had the chance to grab a quick but chic lunch at one of my favorite little cafes. They have a few outposts in Manhattan and the Hamptons, and they also have a charming spot in Palm Beach.

Sant Ambroeus is a jewel box restaurant and coffee bar with Italian fare, pastries, gelato, and some of the best espresso outside of Italy. Anytime I’ve eaten there, I’m immediately transported straight back to Milan.

My meal this time was a small one, but so delicious. I ordered their shaved artichoke, arugula, and heart of palm salad with aged parmigiano. It was light with tangy crunch from the hearts of palm and vinaigrette, while the parmigiano added a salty richness.

We also ordered the prosciutto and burrata, which came drizzled with olive oil and a sprinkling of pepper. The prosciutto was sliced tissue-thin and so perfectly salty—a perfect compliment to the mild milky tenderness of the burrata.

Our lunch was lighter in order to have a little gelato at the end. We ordered the stracciatella, which is similar to American chocolate chip ice cream. It’s made by drizzling melted chocolate through the vanilla gelato base as it’s churning. The result is superfine little bits of chocolate flecked throughout the creamy gelato—total heaven, as was the espresso I had with it.

I highly recommend the charming Sant Ambroeus for a coffee or meal if you are in Palm Beach, Manhattan, or another of their locales
